The need for enforcing the
Animal Welfare Act Duty of Care is amply demonstrated in a posting left in a dogs health Newsgroup on Sunday (08 July). The poster, someone going under the name
Woofysue, received short shrift from members of the group when she put the question:
How do I instill fear in a dog?
The posting to
rec.pets.dogs.health told members that Woofysue had been bitten by her brother's Yorkshire Terrier three times in the past two months and was looking for
ways to make the dog quiver in fear whenever she was around..
"I've done everything possible to placate it, and all the talk about curing with kindness is rubbish. As he refuses to get rid of it I want to, need to break its spirit. What can I do to make a dog fear me, I mean really fear me. I don't mind beating it but don't want it to turn ferocious. I want it to quiver in fear every time it sees me. Let it hate as long as it fears. I know this sounds cruel but you didn't have to have four stitches in your leg."
With this posting, Woofysue may well have bitten off more than she can chew. One member suggests a radical solution:
"Every time you see the dog, hit yourself over the head with a 2 X 4. If the dog does not leave your presence immediately keeping hitting yourself. Do not fail to do this one time, or the lesson will be ruined."
Others offered less painful solutions. If you would like to help solve Woofysue's problem why not visit:
