EFAW Condemns European Cosmetics Decision

The Eurogroup For Animal Welfare, (EFAW) a pan European lobby group whose members include the Royal and the Scottish Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, (RSPCA, SSPCA), and which has consistently argued against the testing of cosmetic products and ingredients on animals, has strongly condemned a European Parliament, (EP) decision to delay a marketing ban on cosmetics tested on animals.

A compromise agreement was reached last week at a conciliation meeting between Council and Parliament delegations under the conciliation procedure set up following a postponement of the introduction of a ban on the marketing of cosmetics ingredients tested on animals after 1 July 2002. This agreement failed to introduce a complete marketing ban after any set date.
