A complaint against Mars Petcare UK Ltd that an advert for its Pedigree® Joint Care+ treats exaggerated the benefits of the product, has been rejected by the Advertising Standards Authority, (ASA).

The Kennel Club, (KC) has expressed disappointment at news that the Scottish Government is to delay further work on the banning on electric shock collars in Scotland until Defra has completed further research on the impact of using the devices on dogs.

Environment Secretary Hilary Benn has launched a consultation on new pet owner codes of practices for cats, dogs and horses. The codes, to be published on the Defra website and in leaflets, will help pet owners to better understand their new duties under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, government says.

The three year ban that has prevented vets from charging for prescriptions comes to an end on 31 October. Veterinary surgeons will once again be allowed to charge pet owners for writing prescriptions - they have been warned however, not to take advantage of this relaxation of the rules.

Worcestershire-based pet food company Fish4Dogs Ltd launched its first ever TV advertising campaign last week. Broadcasting for two weeks on ITV3 nationally, and ITV1, the in-house run campaign follows a Fish4Dogs national promotion (another first), of its fish treats which ran through September.

A survey by Saga Pet Insurance of 700 of its pet insurance policy holders has identified the top-10-pet-owner- worries about our pets. Maybe not surprisingly in straitened circumstances, large vet bills, costs of medicines and insurance come top of the list. The company also reports however that kennels and catteries are suffering from credit crunch.
