human and animal welfare. I mention it because
Dogs Trust, part of that group, is highlighting the link between
animal abuse and domestic violence this Christmas.

The Kennel Club has refused to comply with conditions set by the
BBC which would have excluded
certain
breeds of dog from the group competition at
Crufts. The result is a confirmation today from the Club that the
BBC will not be broadcasting Crufts 2009.

In May 2008 we
reported the results of a survey, produced by
pet insurer, Esure, which purported to show the lifetime costs of
keeping a dog. Costing a
Jack Russell at £26,000 (Esure's 'cheapest' breed), its figures are double those of this month's survey by rival
pet insurer Intune.
